CALA awards for design and community involvement
Two of CALA's largest brownfield regeneration developments in Scotland were recognised as best in the UK at the Your New Home Best Developments of 2006 Awards ceremony held at the Royal Geographic Society in London. The leading housebuilder's sustainable mixed-use community, Grandholm Village in North Aberdeen, was awarded Highly Commended in the Best Newbuild Village category. Greenbank Village, the biggest refurbishment project in Edinburgh when it began in 1999 and now a popular residential area in its own right, received Highly Commended in the Best City Development category.
CALA has also been recognised with a major award from the Scottish Executive and Royal Town Planning Institute for a ground-breaking approach to community involvement in the planning process.
The leading developer received the award for Community Consultation in the annual Scottish Awards for Quality in Planning which recognise outstanding work by, or within, planning authorities, community organisations and other bodies.
The award recognises CALA's Community Involvement and Engagement programme designed to secure community input into the masterplan for the town extension of Winchburgh in West Lothian.
The Winchburgh community involvement programme has already been recognised as best practice by Malcolm Chisholm MSP in his former position as Communities Minister.
Gerry More, Managing Director of CALA Homes (East) Limited, comments: 'CALA forged a reputation for designing luxury homes over thirty years and today, as we celebrate a third successive year of growth, our portfolio is richer than ever extending to some of the country's most exciting and successful urban regeneration projects'.
'We are passionately committed to designing and building the sustainable, attractive communities people want to live, work and relax in and engaging with the local community.'
