No less than six engineering and construction companies have been nominated for awards at the PLC Awards, which are designed to reward excellence in the smaller quoted company sector of the London Stock Exchange. Speedy Hire Plc, the plant hire group, Connaught Plc, the social housing company, ROK Plc, the building and development company, White Young Green Plc, the engineering consultants, have each been nominated for an award in Investor Communication. Scott Wilson Plc, the multi disciplinary construction consultant has been nominated for 'New Company of the Year'.
Keller Plc, the ground engineering services company, has been nominated for 'Company of the year'.
Steve Corcoran, at Speedy Hire Plc, has been nominated for 'Enterpreneur of the Year'.
This was won last year by John Morgan, the Chairman of Morgan Sindall Plc, the regional construction and affordable housing company.
Jonathan Hook, UK construction and housebuilding leader at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, which sponsors the PLC Awards, commented: 'It is excellent that the engineering and construction sector is so well represented at the PLC Awards'.
'For instance, every single one of the nominees in the 'Investor Communication' category is related to the engineering and construction sector'.
'This serves to highlight the extent to which these groups have become more focused and more adept at outlining their key performance indicators and presenting core information to shareholders and analysts'.
'A sector traditionally viewed by the city with some degree of caution appears to be communicating its messages more effectively'.
The results of the award nominations will be announced at a dinner on March 8 2007.
